2023 – 2024
The Kunsthalle Osnabrück celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2023! From July 8 to February 25, 2024, 3 exhibitions will be presented: An exhibition by Aram Bartholl. An impressive building wrapping by Ibrahim Mahama. And a group exhibition of guests and artists from Osnabrück. The group exhibition consists of many different events. Its title is Bist du bereit [Are you ready?].
In 1991, the Osnabrück City Council decided that an art institution was to be established in Osnabrück. There upon, the former monastery constituted by the Dominican convent was renovated. In 1993, the first exhibition of the newly founded Kunsthalle Osnabrück opened there. With an exhibition by Arnulf Rainer. Since then, many different artists have chosen this location as an exhibition space. For example: Dan Graham, Jörg Immendorff, Cornelia Schleime, Damien Hirst, Daniel Spoerri, Andy Warhol, Daniel Richter, Jorinde Voigt, Amelie von Wulffen, Leiko Ikemura, Via Lewandowsky, Michael Beutler, Felice Varini, Katharina Hohmann, Heba Y. Amin, Jovanna Reisinger, Hannah Quinlan and Rosie Hastings, Cemile Sahin, Candice Lin, Anna Haifisch or Erwin Wurm.
The monastery was founded in 1283 by the Dominican convent and was profaned in 1803. This means: Since then, it has no longer been used as a religious place. Since then, it has been used for different purposes: as a military hospital, a residential building, barracks, a camp, as well as a place for exhibitions, theatre, music and events. And for the past 30 years as a museum.
