Head of Collection (m/f/d) for the Artothek and Art in Public Space at the Kunsthalle Osnabrück

The Kunsthalle Osnabrück is one of the most important platforms for contemporary art in Lower Saxony and radiates far beyond the city with its innovative and experimental exhibitions and mediation projects, which are presented both in the unique rooms of the former Dominican monastery and in public spaces. The position offers the opportunity to actively contribute to strengthening the programme in the areas of exhibitions, education, public programming, digital publicity and communication strategies as part of a small team. In addition, the Kunsthalle has a collection in public space with 44 works and an Artothek with approx. 1,500 works available for loan. This relevant part of art production, mediation work and archiving can be organised and managed in the advertised position as a direct interface to the public.

Scope of employment: This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of 19.5 hours.

Time limit: This is a permanent position.

Your responsibilities

Conceptualisation and creation:

Artothek of the Kunsthalle Osnabrück:
- Completion and opening of the new concept for the Artothek 2025
- Continuous continuation of the viewing and digitisation of the collection and preparation for making it available for lending
- Continuation of cataloguing and storage development
- Further development and maintenance of the lending website
- Conception of educational programmes such as presentations, events, workshops and school collaborations

Collection of Art in Public Space at the Kunsthalle Osnabrück
- Creation of a new concept for the activation of the historical collection with regard to a better overview and mediation
- Further development of the public database/online presentation for the collection

Administrative tasks:
• In the area of controlling and finances for the Artothek and the Art on Puclic Space collection: budgeting, acquisition and accounting of third-party funds, review and revision of contracts as well as guidance and controlling of the tasks of the collection assistant

Communication, networking and counselling: with artists, the specialist press, other national art libraries, with various specialist departments on issues relating to art in public spaces or art in architecture and acting as a contact person for the public regarding the Artothek and Art in Public Space collection

Professional care and restoration of damaged sculptures from the Art in Public Space collection and works from the Artothek

Your profile
You have a university degree in art history, art studies, art education, collection studies, cultural management, cultural studies, architecture, architectural history or a curatorial degree programme.

We also expect
- Professional experience in museums and contemporary art institutions
- Experience in dealing with private collections, museum collections and collection databases is welcome
- Experience with art in public space and/or art libraries welcome
- Confident writing of (press) texts and extensive correspondence in German and English
- Experience in using text and image processing programmes as well as working with websites and social media channels
- Team spirit
- Situational empathy combined with flexibility in thinking and acting
- Experience in controlling and creating financial plans
