Ausstellung New Building

Kunsthalle Osnabrück invites you to its birthday party. We will celebrate for 8 months. For this purpose, Diane Hillebrand is establishing a space including a bar, rest area, massage chairs, exhibition and event spaces. Meeting in this location, the visitors can reflect together. On the past, the present and the future of the Kunsthalle Osnabrück. 30 guests have been invited to participate in the art and cultural scene of Osnabrück. They can use and design the space. Various pop-up events will take place. [A pop-up event is an event that only takes place for a short time in one determined location]. There are exhibitions, cooking evenings, film screenings, talks, parties, concerts or quiz nights.

The artist Diane Hillebrand designed the space for all events. All furniture and alterations in the room were individually designed by Diane Hillebrand and implemented in Osnabrück. Diane Hillebrand sees architecture itself as a work of art [Architecture is another word for the art of buildings. How is a building designed?]. She refers to buildings as bodies that are exposed to the environment. These bodies can take on a living, active and open role in contact with the visitors. They can change and do not appear straightforward or closed off. Wind, light, temperature or humidity inscribe themselves in their materials. They leave their traces.

All elements have been treated. Either treated with Cyano-bacteria. [Cyano-bacteria are light-sensitive. They are used in today’s food industry. They grow naturally and have a greenish-bluish hue]. Or the elements were transformed into weather maps using cyanotype [Cyanotype is an old photographic technique. It involves using sunlight to make objects visible in a shadowy way directly on surfaces. Cyanotype always appears in shades of blue. But the background of the objects is painted yellow. So, they take on different shades of green in the Kunsthalle]. There are names inscribed on the weather maps. They are the names of all the people involved in Bist du bereit? [Are you ready?].

Diane Hillebrand’s furniture and room design will change over the time of the exhibition. They will change with the rhythm of the different events. And with the people who will animate the objects.

Visitors can use the rooms as places to stay. To rest. To chat. Or to read. They can take part in the events. Or view the exhibitions. And let yourself be surprised. It is worth coming back to the Kunsthalle. There will always be something different to see. A programme booklet informs you about all the events. You can get it at the Kunsthalle counter or download it from the website.

The focus of Diane Hillebrand’s (DE) work is on creating conceptual, spatial contexts in exhibition space, for conferences and in theatre. Most recently, Hillebrand has worked for the research group Fluid Circulations (2023), the 15th Triennial of Small Sculpture Fellbach, the Kunstverein Braunschweig (both 2022), the Biennale für Freiburg (2021), for the Badischer Kunstverein Karlsruhe, the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig (both 2020) or the 33rd Ljubljana Biennale of Graphic Art in (2019).
