Peter Hamel was murdered on 14 September 1994 when he stood
protectively in front of two people at Raiffeisenplatz during a
homophobic and queer-hostile attack. Since his murder, he has always
been remembered on 14 September. And it’s a day for standing up against
the hatred against queer people and for civil courage. [The word queer
is a self-designation. For example, gay men, lesbian women, bisexual
people, trans people and inter people use it for themselves] [Civil
courage means: I am courageous. I stand up for other people and defend
their rights].
At 11:00 the Gedenkinitiative Peter Hamel
invites you to the inauguration of the memorial against homophobia and
for civil courage and to the commemoration of Peter Hamel at Raiffeisenplatz, 49074 Osnabrück.
As part of the artistic project diamond splinters - osna’s queerstory
we would like to come together with you, with the artist Irène Mélix
and the Osnabrück abseits choir at 18:00 at Raiffeisenplatz in memory of
Peter Hamel. If you have a picnic blanket, you are welcome to bring it.
