What is “Romantic Universal Poetry”? It is a text by
Friedrich Schlegel. In it he writes about how to deal with literature.
[Literature is printed texts such as novels, short stories or poems].
This text changed many things at the time of Romanticism. He described a
new task of literary criticism. [Literary criticism is the review of
literature, for example in newspapers]. Friedrich Schlegel wrote:
“Literary criticism has an important task, namely to reflect on
literature. This reflection will never end, not today and not in the
future.
But what about today? Do the Romantic ideas about literature and
literary criticism also fit into our times? Can we find a new approach
to literature in this way? That is what we want to talk about.
We are holding this discussion with experts from different fields. The
literary scholar Prof. Dr. Tina Hartmann (University of Bayreuth), the
journalist and author Andreas Platthaus (FAZ) and the literary scholar
and theatre critic Prof. Dr. Kai Bremer (University of Osnabrück) will
talk about their perspectives on Romanticism and literary criticism. The
journalist and professor Dr. Stefan Lüddemann will moderate the
discussion.
Admission is free. Registration is not required. This event will be held in German.
