Artist Gabriella Hirst invites you to a winter workshop at her installation Battlefield. Together with her and gardener Sonja Nitz, we will winterise the Battlefield
garden. We will pack up plants, cut them back and prepare them for
winter dormancy. All are welcome to lend a hand and help out and learn
more about the needs and protection of individual plants in winter. Over
a shared geranium tea, Gabriella Hirst will talk about the history of
the garden, the naming of the plants and their historical backgrounds.
Come later? Leaving early? No problem, you can join us flexibly between
12:00 and 15:00 and help out. Every helping hand is welcome.
The workshop series has been created as part of artist Gabriella Hirst’s exhibition Battlefield and takes place once every season. During the duration of the installation Battlefield
in the Kunsthalle Osnabrück, Gabriella Hirst will conduct several
seasonal workshops together with gardeners. [Seasonal means here: The
contents of the workshop always fit the season]. She teaches plant care
techniques and stories. We will share plant-care techniques and stories
as entangled with the upkeep of language and history-making. There is a
summer workshop (propagation), an autumn workshop (harvest) and a winter
workshop (protection).
Participation in the workshop is free of charge. The workshop will be
held in English. Translation into German will be provided. Registration
is not necessary. Warm clothing suitable for work and (gardening)
gloves are recommended.
The visit of all exhibitions is free of charge for all workshop participants.
