Queer Walks are city walks to queer history, queer
stories and places in Osnabrück. The word queer is a self-description.
For example, gay men, lesbian women, bisexual people, trans people and
inter people use it for themselves.
In which bar did the most popular women’s parties take place in the 90s?
Where do LSBITQ drink their after-work drink today? [LSBITQ is the
abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, inter trans and queer]. What
happened at Raiffeisenpark on 14 September 1994? And who was Peter
Hamel? What was the role of the Department for Lesbians and Other Women
and the university’s autonomous gay department for queer history in the
city? [A unit is a department at a university.] Where could queers meet,
date and invite other queers for a drink? What role did the Lagerhalle
play? How long has the CSD actually existed? [The CSD is a street parade
where queer people demonstrate for their rights]. And what queer places
are there in Osnabrück right now?
Diana Häs and the artist Irène Mélix are doing this tour. It leads from
the Kunsthalle right through Osnabrück’s city centre. Together we will
follow the traces of queer history and stories.
Dr. Diana Häs is a philosopher, educationalist and member of the
Osnabrück City Council. Since 2001 she has been campaigning for the
rights of queer people, for example in the women’s cultural association
Mother Jones and Gay in May. She knows a lot about the city’s recent
queer history!
Irène Mélix is an artist and activist. She had the idea for the Queer Walks.
