In January 2022, the artist Irène Mélix came to Osnabrück. She started with a research on queer history in Osnabrück. [A research is the search for information, for example in old newspapers]. [The word queer is a self-designation. For example gay men, lesbian women, bisexual people, trans people and inter people use it for themselves]. This is how the project “diamond splinters - osna’s queerstory” [translated: diamond splinters - Osnabrück’s queer history] came into being. It is a research project. And a project for artistic mediation. [Artistic mediation is talking about art, for example in an exhibition].
Events took place in Osnabrück over a year. Most of them were planned and carried out together with queer associations and cooperation partners. [Old and new voices had their say in the process. Iréne Mélix spoke with many people and groups. She conducted interviews with various queer people. Iréne Mélix collected queer material from Osnabrück. For example newspaper advertisements, told stories and photographs. This material comes from different times.
On 28 January, a special supplement will be published in the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. In this special supplement, the fragments of queer life will be put together to form a varied collection of queer stories from Osnabrück.
Queer Talk invites you to look back at queer stories from the past. But it is also a preview of queer futures in Osnabrück. What ideas and plans are there? What could future meeting places look like? And what do queers want? [Queers is a short form for queer people.] Which topics are important right now? And what visions arise from them? [A vision is an idea of the future.]
With the talk show, the artist says goodbye to all the people who took part in the project. And she hands over to them the responsibility for an active queer future in Osnabrück.
Entrance 19:00, start 19:30. The bar will remain open until 23:00. Participation is free of charge, registration is not necessary.
