Workshop with Manila Bartnik: Rubbish, residue, remains — in
short, waste. We all know it. No one likes to clean up. You drag it out,
postpone it, or just leave it altogether. Why is that? In this workshop
we try not to judge the decluttering. We do not say: it’s exhausting.
Or useful. Or necessary. We say: cleaning up is art. What is the heap of
rubbish at our workshop made of? It’s made of remains of David Polzin’s
installation. They haven’t been used in his art work. The participants
get to decide: how do I want to clean up? How do I want to sort the
waste? What do I do with it? That way, something new comes out of it.
Manila Bartnik is an artist living in Osnabrück with her family. In
her work, she examines relationships, connections, and dependencies
between people. She deals with topics that are difficult in our society.
She is interested in questions like: How do we start a conversation
about important and difficult topics? How do we find a common language
for that? And how does that help us change and renew something?
