This event is the final part of the annual program “Kids, listen up!”. The Kunsthalle Osnabrück is showing films by the artists Eva Kot’átková and Marianna Simnett. In a one-hour double screening with popcorn in a cozy atmosphere.
Both artists have recently been honored with major exhibitions. Eva Kot’átková was featured in the Czech Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. And Marianna Simnett had a solo exhibition at the Hamburger Bahnhof. These two exhibitions were much talked about and reported on.
What do the two films have in common? Children are the main characters in both films - as actors, documentary subjects or speakers.
Marianna Simnett’s film is called “The Bird Game”. The movie was made in 2019 and is 21 minutes long. It takes the form of a fairy tale for a dystopian narrative. [A dystopian movie is a movie that describes a bad place.] A crow dictates the rules of a dangerous game. It wants to seed strife among the children. And in doing so, it ultimately determines the fate of a group of children.
Eva Kot’átková’s film is called “Stomach of the World”. The film was made in 2017 and is 46 minutes long. It’s about power. In the movie, you experience the world from the perspective of children. The children carry out a series of exercises. They imagine the world as a stomach that absorbs everything and everyone and keeps absorbing more and more.
The screening is suitable from the age of 16.
