A conversation with Katrin Dinges, Anne Leichtfuß, Inga Zimprich
Moderation: Anna Jehle and Juliane Schickedanz (Directors Kunsthalle Osnabrück)
The annual theme of the Kunsthalle Osnabrück is Accessibility. And we invite you to an open discussion on this topic. We have invited experts to join us. Together we want to discuss: Can exhibition making and accessibility be thought of together? What hurdles and obstacles can be removed in museums? How can exhibitions become collaborative spaces? How is the audience addressed? How can mediation, art and experiment be combined? Is there even an ideal exhibition experience for everyone? And how can museums achieve this?
Participants:
Katrin Dinges is an artist and writes poetry. She studied German Literature and European Ethnology at the Humboldt University in Berlin. [Ethnology is the science of different peoples.] She works freelance as an art mediator [That means: she talks to other people about art. For example, in museums] and inclusive cultural mediator [This means: she talks to people with and without disabilities about art. For example in the museum]. She is creative, blind, severely hearing impaired and has a chronic metabolic disorder. [Metabolic disorder means: nutrients from food cannot be processed properly in the body].
Anne Leichtfuß is a light language interpreter and translator. [She works in the participatory research institute TOUCHDOWN 21, for which people with and without Down syndrome conduct joint research, and for the magazine Ohrenkuss …da rein, da raus.
Inga Zimprich is a cultural worker, mother and works as a care assistant in Berlin. [A care assistant cares for and looks after old people, sick people or people with disabilities]. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam, the Jan van Eyck Academie Maastricht and the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. Together with Julia Bonn, she founded the Feminist Health Research Group in Berlin. The aim of this group is: health and care should be reorganised. People should take responsibility for it together. The group researches health issues, makes exhibitions, magazines and workshops. Inga Zimprich is also part of the Sickness Affinity Group. This is a group of artists who deal with the themes of illness and disability.
The event will take place within the framework of this year’s IKT Congress on the theme of Interconnectivity. The IKT is the association of international curators who meet once a year in a selected city. [Curators select art. For example, for an exhibition or a festival]. A group of German curators will meet in Herford, Bielefeld and Osnabrück in 2021.
