Adir Jan and Emrah Gökmen have been connected for many years.
Both have an intimate friendship and they make music together. Adir Jan
is queer. [The word queer is a self-identification. For example, gay
men, lesbian women, bisexual people, trans people and inter people use
it for themselves]. Adir Jan writes songs. He calls his music Cosmopolitan Kurdesque.
They are hits in the Transglobal World Music Charts. Emrah Gökmen has a
soul full of love and longing. He lives in Berlin, just like Adir Jan.
The two feel connected through their music. And through the Zazaic
language. [Zazaic is the language of the Zaza in eastern Turkey]. Adir
Jan and Emrah Gökmen express their art with as limited tools as
possible: a small long-necked lute, a guitar and their voices. Their
voices are very different, but nevertheless they blend into each other.
Together, Adir Jan and Emrah Gökmen play old Kurdish-Zaza songs and new
pieces of their own, most of which were created in the process of making
music together. Their music combines tradition and novelty. Adir Jan
and Emrah Gökmen show: Both do not have to contradict each other. If
both have enough space and breath.
The concert takes place here: Toros Restaurant, Bohmter Straße 13 A, 49074 Osnabrück
This event is part of the project Aşbildung by Slavs and Tatars.
The artists Slavs and Tatars transform the outdoor area of a
restaurant. It will become a meeting place. In accordance with the
corona restrictions. But you can meet, exchange, talk, read, and eat
together. You can watch and listen to artists from Osnabrück. The event
series is developed by curator Bêriya (Özlem) Susan, supported by Hana
Ćurak. The events are about these topics: What does home mean to me?
Where is my home? Where is my family’s home? What culture do I come
from? And in which culture do I live now? Do I long for a home? How may I
show myself? Do I belong? What is normal? What pressures do I
experience?
The project is supported by Sievert Stiftung and Freunde der Kunsthalle Osnabrück e.V.
