A language that is ever green is a collection of
poems. It dates back to the time of Romanticism. The poet John Clare
wrote them. He lived from 1793 to 1864 and wrote mainly poems about
nature.
These poems and music can now be experienced in the Kunsthalle
Osnabrück. Romanticism is the current annual theme of the Kunsthalle
Osnabrück. The musical reading also poses the question: which themes and
social issues from the period of Romanticism are back today? John Clare
criticised the way land was treated at the time. He thought it was
being snatched from the common people to build factories on. He fought
against this in his texts. So you could say he was an early campaigner
for environmental protection.
The actress Monika Vivell will perform selected texts by John Clare:
poems, ballads, folk songs and autobiographical texts. [Autobiographical
texts are texts John Clare wrote about his life]. She will be
accompanied by violinist Dorothea Sack. Jens Peters is the director of
the Literaturbüro Westniedersachsen. And he is a member of the John
Clare Society. He will present John Clare’s curriculum vitae. He will
also relate the texts of the reading to the current exhibitions in the
Kunsthalle Osnabrück.
Admission to the reading is free, a donation is requested. Reservations can be made through the Literaturbüro Westniedersachsen Tel. 0541/202-7908 or by email at LitOs-info@osnabrueck.de.
