EMAF 2023: Trembling Time

19.04.23 – 29.05.23

Exhibition

EMAF is the abbreviation for the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück. EMAF plays an important role in the dissemination of media art in Europe. [Media art uses motifs from mass media, such as from films or music videos]. It takes place on an annual basis. The festival offers an up-to-date overview of artistic films, installations, performances, digital formats and hybrid forms. It is focused on personal and political themes. The festival is an international meeting place for audiences, artists, curators and students from different fields of study.

This year, the EMAF is once again dedicated to a special theme. This year’s motto is Trembling Time. In 2023, the EMAF is dealing with a time in turmoil. A time full of movement and yet without a goal. A time without any direction. It can be an end. Or the beginning of something new. On this theme, EMAF shows artistic works, texts are created and events to be held.

Exhibition Trembling Time

EMAF is the abbreviation for the European Media Art Festival Osnabrück. The festival theme Trembling Time is also the motto of this year’s exhibition. Inga Seidler is curating the exhibition for the festival. [Curating means: deciding on the content of the exhibition and planning it]. The exhibition is meant to question our understanding of time. The present artists take a look at alternative histories and stories. They all have different ideas about the future and progress.
They share their observations and stories at a time of global climate crisis. Experiencing the climate crisis creates an image of the passage of time.
