Online-workshop with Nadja Buttendorf: For a long time, there
have been big demonstrations in Germany. Demonstrations with huge
banners. Demonstrations about climate change. Greta Thunberg became
famous with that. But: the times of these big demonstrations are over.
Since the Coronavirus pandemic started, protests have moved to the
internet, to social media. On the internet, protest signs have become
smaller and smaller. Wordplay and ironical-critical comments also play a
role there. People use hashtags to protest, for example:
#ClimateStrikeOnline and #LeaveNoOneBehind.
The Workshop will take
place in a video chat. In the chat, we paint our protest onto our
fingernails. We demonstrate online. We create protest images which can
be used on social media. We call our protest: Never not striking nails.
Fingernails are a very small part of the body. But they are always
visible – and thereby the protest is, too. WE WANT HOT NAILS, NOT A HOT
PLANET!
Important: Before the workshop all participants will be
provided with material boxes by our delivery service. These will contain
everything that is necessary for the workshop. Let us know if you need
technical support from us to participate!
Nadja Buttendorf
questions: which norms and codes make a man a man? And which make a
woman a woman? And in what ways do men still hold more power than women?
What is the worth of a body? What difference do technology and
digitalization make in that regard? Nadja Buttendorf’s video projects
are stories from a new perspective. They show us: Women are part of the
history of technology. In Nadja Buttendorf’s videos they become visible.
Nadja Buttendorfs works are interactive. That means: they are shaped by
their audience. That is also the case with the online workshops. Nadja
Buttendorf creates video tutorials for the internet. And she makes very
peculiar jewellery which are good conversation starters. The jewellery
and the video tutorials show that there are many things you can make
yourself. Even with little money.
