What Kind of a Celebration? With a title in form of a question for an exhibition-, performance- and eductational project in several parts, Kunsthalle Osnabruck will experiment for seven weeks different artistic methods of community building. The show opens on Sunday February 8th at 11 am with sculptures, photos, videos and interactive installations on the theme by Susanne Bosch, Thierry Geoffroy, Niklas Goldbach, Pablo Helguera, Vlatka Horvat, Cheryl Pope and Luigi Presicce. Furthermore, Andrew Beccone will open the Osnabrück Altstadt Branch of his Reanimation Library, which will be open for the visitor during the entire run of the show and offer a resource for inspiration as well as working station to further develop the images collected by Beccone. His criteria for selecting these books that stem from the 1940ies, 50ies, 60ies and 70ies is the >power of the image<. He collects books all over the world for more than 13 years: mainly scientific publications or non-fiction for ordinary persons containing images that invite to study some times already dated visions of the world that surrounds us. The library represents rich resource for creative confrontation for local artists as well, who since January 20th have been invited to frequent the library and to connect their artistic research to the one by Andrew Beccone, making his library a point of departure for their own work.
After the opening, performances and interventions will follow in a weekly rhythm. All of them question, represent or experiment the building of more or less temporarily limited communities.
The first event after the opening is a >decelerated speed dating< organized by Susanne Bosch with the title “THIS IS TOMORROW!” on Sunday, February 15th from 11 am to 2 pm. The artist Susanne Bosch cares for what she calls “the good life for everybody on this planet”. She went to look around in Osnabrück and surroundings to find out who works locally on sustainable, innovative conditions for living and working. There is a lot to report! An African proverb says: "If many small people in many small places do many small things, they can change the face of the world". Susanne Bosch wants the many "little people" to meet, to network, that ideas circulate and might find collaborators or imitators. She invited 25 people in the Kunsthalle Osnabrück, to have a dialogue with visitors interested in their practices.
